New members are welcome to join us for one of our Saturday hikes (approx 3 - 4 hours) or a longer hike every second Sunday. Or you may prefer to meet us on any Wednesday evening for an organised walk during the months of May to August.
The Lung Gompas Hillwalking Club is based in Dublin. Our club was founded in the 1980's and has currently got around forty members. The club is affiliated to the .
Walks take place every second Sunday and one Saturday in every month. A lift to the walk start can usually be arranged. Your best advice, is to contact the designated walk leader in advance. Those with their own transport can go straight to the start point for the walk, which usually commence at about 10:30am. The number of participants on a walk varies but as we are a small club it averages perhaps around eight people.
Much of our Sunday trekking is done over the extensive mountain terrain of nearby Wicklow. Favourite routes are Glendalough, Glenmalure, including Lugnaquilla, the highest mountain in Leinster, Luggala, and the mountains above the Blessington lakes. From time to time we arrange trips to the Mournes; Kerry and other parts of Ireland. On a walk, we might cover anything between five and thirteen miles, climb between two and four thousand feet, and walk for five to eight hours, depending on route, weather, and time of year. Short options are generally available. A change of clothes is advisable, particularly if you’re to join the rest of us for well-earned refreshments at the end of the walk!
